TPP met with Child Hope Asia, an NGO that teaches street children basic life skills. We talked with Childhope’s President and Executive Director, Ms. Teresita Silva (basically the cutest lady ever), giving us tons and TONS of information of what her NGO does.

Child Hope Asia identifies areas where there are tremendous amounts of poverty and they teach the street children in these areas different skills and subjects, from their basic rights to health care. Most of these children work on the streets in order to support their families, while only 5 - 10 % of the children they cater to are abandoned or sexually abused.

As Ms. Silva says “The Philippines is the only place where street children are rounded up. What are we trying to hide?”

Because of this, the social workers and teachers who work on the streets have to teach the children secretly, in order to not be caught by the government.

Thanks to the staff members of Child Hope Asia, the street children that they work with are much more involved in the community. The children are now participating in their own sports teams, creating rock bands, and aspiring to become teachers themselves.

Child Hope Asia is creating a lot of change and they run primarily on donations (which means it’s harder to fund their programs).

TPP decided to help out by creating fund raisers in the US to raise money for basic medical supplies and to fund a medical clinic for the children. Yay for change!
